Oil Change Toolbox
Installation Instructions - Check owner's manual for correct oil specification, viscosity, and amount. Purchase oil by year, make, and model, or under the Tools & Universal Parts tab on RockAuto.com
- Wear proper protective gear (safety glasses, gloves, long sleeve shirt) to protect skin and eyes from hot oil.
- Place a Drain Pan under the crankcase and carefully open drain plug to drain oil. When oil is fully drained, reinstall drain plug on the oil pan.
- Position the drain pan under the oil filter. Unscrew oil filter (using a Filter Wrench, if necessary).
- Clean mounting base, making sure the O-ring from the old filter is not stuck to the filter mount.
- Apply film of clean oil to filter gasket.
- Screw new filter on until gasket reaches base contact, then tighten filter to manufacturer specifications.
- Add oil to “full” on dipstick. Idle engine for 5 minutes and check for leaks.
- Shut off engine and recheck oil level after 5 minutes. Top off as necessary.
It is illegal to dispose of used oil or oil filters in a sanitary landfill or public waterway. Many towns have free hazardous waste drop-off sites, which a quick internet search will help you find.
