For 2 Ring Piston
Hastings Manufacturing designs and manufactures piston rings for the world's most recognizable and trusted brands, including Chrysler, General Motors, Harley-Davidson, Ingersoll-Rand, Emerson, MTD, and many other Tier One manufacturers.
For over 100 years, they've never wavered from their first and only mission — to make the best piston ring possible. Hastings manufactures a bold and broad offering of piston rings, one that spans thousands of applications for virtually any engine. Their rings function in sets (usually a top compression ring, second groove compression ring, and oil control ring) and range from 1.125" to 8.875" bores.
The Hastings Story
Piston Ring Surface Treatment Advantages
Hastings coatings offer lower friction, longer life, and lower emissions. Depending on the application, coatings may be applied to the top compression ring or the whole set.
MOLY (PLASMA SPRAY MOLYBDENUM)
Hard, wear resistant, and anti-scuffing
Prevents bore galling/scuffing when using hi-tensile iron and steel compression rings
Its porosity traps lubricating oil
Can be used with all bore materials
CHROME / TRIPLE CHROME
Hard, wears very well, lower scuff resistance
Prevents bore galling/scuffing when using hi-tensile iron and steel rings
Preferred over moly in dusty environments
Primarily for cast iron bores, cannot be used on chrome or Nikasil bores
MANGANESE PHOSPHATE / BLACK OXIDE
Promotes ring seating on dry start ups
Is rust preventative
Prevents corrosion and eliminates galling of rings during startup and break-in
Used on iron and steel compression rings
NITRIDE
Hard, wear resistant, and low friction
Hardens all outer surfaces of the ring for increased face and side wear resistance
More environmentally friendly than chrome plating
Can be used to harden Flex-Vent expanders and rails
CERAMIC PVD
Very hard, very high scuff resistance, very low coefficient of friction
Provides high scuff, heat resistance, and excellent sealing
Usually done in conjunction with Gas-Nitride on stainless steel rings
