Another Happy Customer!

I was told about RockAuto when I was looking for a Oxygen Sensor for my Toyota Pickup. I am blown away with the price and service I received. I checked all the other local stores and RockAuto smashed their price by almost $60.

I will recommend RockAuto to all my friends and family.

Thank you ROCKAUTO!!!

Repair Mistakes & Blunders

Ouch!

When I was a teenager, I had a 1978 Buick Turbo Regal – the first year for the smaller GM intermediates and the turbocharged V-6 engine. Although the car had nothing near the performance of the Grand National Regals to come in later years, I liked it and enjoyed doing most of the maintenance myself.

I was changing the oil one time and had a friend “helping”. As I drained the old oil, changed the filter, and poured in the new oil, we kept a running banter going, as we always did, about random topics of interest to teenage boys.

As I emptied the last quart of oil into the filler hole, I heard the unmistakable sound of oil draining into the drain pan under the car. Yep, you guessed it – I had been too busy talking and joking around and forgot to put the drain plug back in! Not only had I poured all of my new oil straight through the engine, but I also overflowed the drain pan and made a royal mess.

We drove the 6 miles to town in my Dad’s truck to get four more quarts of oil and I completed the job with no real harm done except to my wallet. I also learned a valuable lesson that I’ve remembered over the years – it might pay to be unsociable when you’re doing car maintenance and repairs!

What's Hidden Inside

RockAuto

MotorWeek

Modern automotive belts and hoses last a lot longer than they used to, but they still eventually fail. What is hidden inside accessory belts, serpentine belts, radiator hoses, and heater hoses? Protect hoses with silicone spray? Motorweek's Master technician Pat Goss provides answers in this video:

Oliver's 1975 Cosworth Vega

Oliver's 1975 Cosworth Vega

This is my 1975 Cosworth Vega (production number 1134). I purchased this car brand new in 1975 and traded it in 1986. 20 years later, and 30,000 miles more on the odometer, one of my buddies sent me an email, and told me that “1134 is on Ebay!" Was he serious? Should I bid? Did I need another collector car? Did I truly miss 1134? I guess I did – because I bid and won! The fourth owner was rather shocked to learn of the history of the car and was extremely happy to see her go back to the original owner. She had a rather difficult life after my ownership. I spent two years restoring her to the condition I had remembered back in 1975.

To date she has won many First Place awards with the VCCA (Vintage Chevrolet Club of America) as well as two Best of Shows. The Cosworth Vega had many "Firsts" for GM including Electronic Fuel injection, Cast Alloy wheels, Twin Cam engine, and 4 valves per cylinder.

The list of parts from RockAuto is extensive. Brake, Suspension, and Ignition parts just to name a few.
